About Us

Allan is CfA’s senior investigations manager at the iLAB &amp; ANCIR, managing a team of forensic data scientists/analysts and technologists in eight African countries. He also leads the iLAB team which conducts network analysis investigations into disinformation and influence operations, including Coordinated Inauthentic Behaviour (CIB) and organised crime networks.

Amanda is a senior programme manager at Code for Africa where she manages CivicSignal. CivicSignal uses machine learning and natural language processing to monitor and map media in Africa. Previously, she was managing editor for the African Network of Centres for Investigative Reporting (ANCIR) and night editor for the Mail &amp; Guardian Online.

Anita Igbine is an investigative data analyst working with the iLAB team at Code for Africa. She has a background in engineering and has contributed to two dossiers tracking coordinated inauthentic behavior across Africa. She has also trained journalists to utilize data and social media for stories. Anita is currently based in Abuja, Nigeria.

Arame is a data analyst with CfA’s Knowledge Team running&nbsp; the Wanadata Senegal community of&nbsp; women journalists and data scientists. She also runs a learn-by-doing training initiative at CfA partner newsrooms, universities and other partner organisations as well as supporting data and design production to research, scrape, refine, verify and interpret data.

Ashlin Simpson is a senior programme manager at Code for Africa with a multi-disciplinary background in public policy and communication science.&nbsp; She is currently leading Code for Africa’s new primary research desk to improve programme impact, identify gaps, and generate new insights into civic tech, digital democracy and data journalism issues across Africa.

Bella is a Pesacheck&nbsp; fact-checker based in Burundi. Prior to joining CfA, Bella was a SRHR project coordinator at Yaga Burundi, a local NGO and also served as a journalist-blogger and community manager from the same institution. Bella is a human rights advocate with over 8 years’ experience in community works and advocacy with a focus on women and youth empowerment.

Bilal is CfA’s special projects editor and is currently in charge of the special projects/tools portfolio. He previously managed the Francophone copydesk, overseeing daily fact-checking from nine Francophone countries. Bilal also led the training sessions for fact-checking skills/techniques.

Cathy is an assistant editor and trainer serving the English and Swahili desks at PesaCheck. Cathy is also a media trainer and has been involved in various research, fact checking, translation and editing projects. She has worked in the digital media space since 2008, where her involvement has included creating, editing and publishing content.

Cedrick is PesaCheck's bilingual (French &amp; English) copy editor. His previous experience was at Translators without Borders, where he worked as a linguist and translators’ recruitment officer. He also worked as a journalist at Radio Culture in Burundi and has led a dynamic team of multilingual and multicultural translators at Rundi Language Hub.

Chris Roper is deputy CEO for Code for Africa, and director for the African Network of Centres for Investigative Reporting. From 2015 - 2019, Chris’ role at CfA was underwritten by a Knight International Fellowship, with the ICFJ. Prior to joining CfA, Chris was editor-in-chief of the Mail &amp; Guardian, and editor-in-chief of Africa’s largest online publisher, 24.com.

Christelle is a data analyst, academy trainer and community coordinator at Code for Africa, and regional mentor&nbsp; for Central Africa Women Techmakers Community. She has a wide experience in community management, data analysis, research and visualisation, data management, SQL and Python,R.

Christian is an investigative data scientist at iLAB, conducting network analysis investigations to track and map online disinformation, influence operations, coordinated inauthentic behavior and organized crime. He is skilled in NLP techniques and computer vision models and&nbsp; has been involved in a number of projects which have helped uncover foreign influence operations in Niger and Côte d’Ivoire.

Christine is a data analyst with CfA and has previously worked with the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics as a junior statistician. She has also had stints with the World Bank as a short term consultant on data cleaning, extraction and analysis. She is skilled in mining, interpreting, analysing and visualizing data with hands on experience in coding using R and Python languages.

Clemence Kyara is the chief technology officer at Code for Africa, and an open source contributor, working on products and services that empower end users by making code do the heavy lifting; from the mundane to the worthwhile. He also dabbles in engineering leadership and philosophy of life.

Collins is the deputy news editor at PesaCheck. He helps in the coordination of the news desk, research and assignment of fact-checks.&nbsp; He holds a degree in Linguistics and Media Communication from Moi University and is currently pursuing post-graduate diploma in French Language at Alliance Francaise, Nairobi.

Constant Cap is the senior product manager at Code for Africa’s ‘sensors.AFRICA citizen science program. He has a deep interest in sustainable mobility, urban resilience and inclusive planning and sits on the Socially Just Public Transport Working Group. He is also involved in the Equitable Mobility for City Health and Wellbeing research project.
